Debbie Gilbert
Pottery
Debbie has always found an appreciation of art. For her, the term "art" has a broad definition and application: She believes art is part in all people. Her awareness of art began in her youth, when an older neighbor introduced her to yarns for crochet and thread for embroidery. She watched her mother draw and paint–though Deb never had a "mind's eye" and still has a hard time drawing a stick figure. However, creating with her hands is a different story. She prefers making functional items, taking joy in creating objects that have purpose and function but may also include delight and whimsy.
Debbie has enjoyed many mediums and art-making phases. For now, she's content in the Walk In Art Center's clay department, which consumes a lot of her creative time, though she misses the fiber arts department. Her curious nature drives her strong desire to know more about how things work. She's always up for a challenge and pushing boundaries. She calls her art "Debbie Gilbert Sideways" because she's always doing something "on the side" and exploring something new in making art.
Deb loves working with ambitious artists who want to share art with the community and each other. Being part of the Walk In Art Center has been a very rewarding endeavor at this stage of her life.
