Jim Heller known for his spiritual yet humorous work to exhibit at the WIAC
Schuylkill County, USA – May 1, 2019 — Pine Grove resident Jim Heller began painting over 65 years ago. During the first half of that time he studied at the Baum School of Art in Allentown, Ringling School of Art in Sarasota, Florida, the University of Arizona in Tucson, the University of the Americas in Mexico City, and at Kutztown University from which he received a Masters Degree. For a short period of time he owned and operated an art gallery in Woodstock, New York and also worked in commercial art for a firm in Allentown, Pennsylvania. After receiving a Bachelors of Arts degree in Cultural Anthropology from the University of Arizona he began teaching Art in 1970 at the high school level in Pine Grove. Heller retired after 33 years of teaching and then taught for 6 more years at St. Ambrose School all while teaching adult classes. Although he has worked in many media, the pieces of work that you will see are examples of mixed media styles and mediums with which he has experimented in the last 30 years. Most of his work has an underlying spiritual nature. It is very evident in some and vaguer in others. Some pieces are very serious and some are humorous. The weavings, however, are his prayer icons.
Join Jim at his opening reception, Wednesday, May 1st, from 5-7pm at the Walk In Art Center in Schuylkill Haven to explore his work.
