Georgine, a native of McAdoo, PA, is a Ukraianian Folk Artist. Georgine’s work consists of very traditional folk art, including pysanky. She takes great pride in her work and her faith. She has a rich heritage and background in bringing different faiths together to find commonalities. She wants to pass on traditions and traditions that celebrate religion. She believes the coal region is rich in our heritage. She organized a group through Penn State that brought people of different faiths together. Each person had to sit with people of a different faith.
Georgine works and teaches many different types of art including:
Ukrainian Pysanky Easter Eggs – Handmade with a traditional kistka (writing tool), beeswax and dyes. A dozen of Georgine’s Pysanky Eggs are on display in the American History Building at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington D.C. (during the Easter season).
Doily – Handmade doily created using an Aedia Cloth with Nazyanka (one of the oldest embroideries in Ukraine).
Kalzanka – Handmade Kalzanka created using an Aedia Cloth with another older Ukrainian embroidery.
Fun fact about Georgine: She was one of the original founders of the Schuylkill County Historical Society.
