Lorraine Felker - Basket Weaving

Lorraine has been weaving baskets since 1998 when she took a basket weaving class with some friends and absolutely loved it. She has been teaching basket-weaving classes since 1999. Mostly self-taught, Lorraine has taken classes from nationally-known weavers and teachers such as learning traditional Nantucket basket weaving from John McGuire and Maggie Silva, willow weaving from Flo Hoppe and traditional Russian diagonal plaiting with birch bark from Vladimir Yarish. She likes to weave using a variety of materials, techniques and styles and even incorporates various knitting patterns into her baskets. A member of the Board of the Walk In Art Center since 2010, Lorraine has been working to promote the center since early in its inception. She shifted gears and joined the ranks of the studio artists with her daughter in the fall of 2012.Lorraine is the Superintendent of Schuylkill Haven Area School District and lives in the Lewistown Valley with her husband, Ray, and their two dogs. She is the proud mother of 5 grown children and even prouder grandmother of 4 grandsons (soon to be 5!)
