Iconographer
Kim started writing (painting) icons in 2000 after attending a workshop given by Peter Pearson in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania with whom she has since extensively studied. She has also participated in workshops and retreats given by Iconographers: Vladislav Andreyev, Michael Kapeluck, and Valentin Streltsov.
While she concentrates primarily in traditional Byzantine patterns dating from the 14th and 15th centuries of Russian Orthodox saints, she is open to writing modern icons of the Roman Catholic saints. The icons are written in either acrylic or egg tempera with 23k gold leafing for the halos.
Kim began teaching iconography in 2004 to a group of homeschool students and since then has given private lessons in her home studio in Mountain Top and travels each summer to Montgomery Alabama to conduct workshops for beginner and advanced students. Her icons can be found in private collections in the United States, Canada, and Hondoras.
Studying iconography has brought Kim in touch with her grandparent’s spirituality who immigrated to the United States at the turn of the century and who passed away before she was born. Her journey has led her to be chrismated into the Orthodox Church of America on Lazarus Saturday 2016 at Holy Resurrection Orthodox Cathedral by Fr. Timothy Cremeens. “I finally feel like I’m home”.
She is very excited to be part of the Walk In Art Center as a studio artist as of January 2017 sharing studio 306 with Peter Cieslukowski, and the fabulous group of artists here who inspire each other and the community.
