Did you know that the Walk In Art Center, in conjunction with the Schuylkill Haven Area Middle School, local artists, businesses and Harrisburg based arts organization 'Jump Street' have been working all school year on a project that is 'Out of this World?'

10 sculptures, each created by a local business or artist are soon going to be ready for their closeup. The project kicked off in the Fall of 2016 when WIAC artist association member Jordan Fees, took on the role of "Artist in Residence" at the school. The school's curriculum aided in the project's development: math, art, science, history, speech, physical education, technology, problem solving and team work all played an integral role.

Students presented their findings to the school board and the Schuylkill Haven Borough Council to ask for permission. The next step was to find local businesses and artists to create permanent outdoor art installations of each planet. The planets range in size and are made from different materials that will stand up to weather and the elements. Each planet is a unique vision of the planets in our solar system and as diverse as the students, artists and businesses we have in Schuylkill County.

Join us on May 20th from 10am-2pm in the Walk In Art Center's Main Gallery for our very own 'science museum', as we unveil each planet sculpture before they are placed throughout town. We will be thanking everyone who made this project possible and hope you can join us for this groundbreaking event!
