Studio 305

Lori Quinn - Photography

I’m a generally all-around creative person. As a self-taught photographer, I started showing my photos publically in 2015. For the last 20 years, I was a busy mom with no time to draw or paint. I kept my creative spark going by taking what I called “artsy-fartsy” photographs while taking tons of photos of my kids.

In 2015, I finally had the guts to show some of them for the first time in the 9 th Annual Block of Art. Those 20 years of artsy-fartsies had begun to see the light of day.

Since then, my work has won awards in several local shows, including first place for photography in the 2017 Keystone Juried Fine Art Exhibition.
When I see something like a building, a cityscape, a flower, I see it as a painting or drawing rather than a traditional photograph. The quality and angle of the light are the foremost criteria for capturing the image. Many of my photos are more about the light and how it hits the subject instead of the actual subject. The image then becomes a very unconventional photo as
it is printed on anything but traditional photo paper. Many photos are then hand tinted, colored with pencil, chalk pencils and/or watercolor.

Much of my work is of the beauty of Key West.

I am madly in love with color.

I’m also completely fascinated with how the sun and the seasons affect buildings as they age. I take photos of them before they are renovated or razed in order to preserve part of the history and beauty of the building before it is forever gone.
